Duty of Care

duty of careAnyone caring for children has a duty of care, legal responsibility, towards each child. A requirement of licensing regulations and duty of care is to ensure that the safety of all children is maintained to a high standard.

In essence, duty of care is an obligation to do “the right thing”. Having a duty of care means taking responsibility to ensure that no one is harmed by our actions, or as a result of our actions.

Should a child be injured while in your care and you or the service is found to be in breach of your duty of care, you or the service may incur legal action.

It is worth noting that your duty of care also extends to your co-workers, and that you have an obligation to ensure that you follow all work policies, procedures and practices in a safe and responsible manner.
